Wedding Planning Costs

For those who are married, were you able to cut any wedding costs?
Hello, me and my fiance are planning on getting married next year. Given the current credit crunch, does anyone have any tips on how to cut costs (i.e. on catering, choosing a venue)? We are wanting to get married in the Lake District, England and ideally have the wedding at the same venue as the reception. Any ideas welcome.
-use a supermarket florist and save $$$
-by your cake at a supermarket . They have wedding cakes at a fraction of designer bakeris.
-Buy your dress off the rack. Check www.davidsbridal.com and check their $99 gown sale.
-Check ebay and craigslist for pre-used items (decor, guests books, flower gild baskets etc) for a fraction of the cost.
-Get married off season (September-April)
-Get married on a Friday or sunday and save
-Have a mid morning reception with brunch
or
A mid afternoon cake, deseet and toast reception
or
a late at night (after 7 pm) coctail party with hors d’ouvres
-Have a toast and a one ohour bar or skip the liquotr to save even more
-DYI your invutes
