Wedding more important than plans with friends?
I am getting married at the end of the summer, but have not been able to spend much time with my fiancee as she has been working time+1/2 to allow us to take a long honeymoon.
There were two weekends this summer that she had kept free for us to spend together, but I screwed up and double-booked one of them. The activity that I planned is something I have been wanting to do for years, and several friends have already commited to joining me and will be dissapointed if I cancel. However, my upcoming marriage and happiness of my fiancee is more important to me.
I know that I should cancel on the trip I had planned, but it is going to be so dissapointing for me and I am concerned I may take out my resentment on my fiancee that weekend.
What should I do?
I think you should tell her you’re sorry, it was an accident, you didn’t mean to plan two things at once. Let her know that if she wants you to cancel with the guys, you will. Be sure and let her know what you said about caring more about her and the upcoming marriage than you do having buddy time with the guys.
See what she says. If she knows you didn’t mean to mess up one of your weekends, and you feel bad about it and don’t want to upset her, she could feel okay about you going.
Just a note, in marriage, good and bad things happen. Learn now the importance of being in control over yourself so you don’t have to be concerned that you would take out your resentment on her. Particularly in a case like this, where she did nothing wrong and if you had planned better you’d get to do both, having any resentment against her is totally misplaced.
I dont’ think I’m wording it right.
Disappointment is understandable. Acting out on her because of the disappointment is not.
