Is black appropriate to wear to a wedding?

I have a wedding to attend in May. The ceremony is at 1:00 in the afternoon and the Wedding Reception is at 6:00 PM. Would it be okay to wear a black dress to this event? I would dress it up with colored shoes or accessories. Is wearing black disrespectful to the bride and groom?

The little black dress is in every wardrobe because it is acceptable to wear to any dressy event. You can add a color pop with red shoes and handbag. black is not disrespectful to the bride and groom unless you are one of the parents of the bride or groom, then wearing black could be thought of as an objection to the wedding. You will find a large percentage of women wearing black at any wedding. Wear your dress and don’t give it another thought!
